Foundation can often be a tricky thing to get right for guys and girls seeking good coverage that is also lightweight and gentle on the skin. I say gentle, as some foundations I’ve tried have felt like they’re burning it!
I love a budget option, particularly the Bourjois City Radiance cream (shade Medium), although I’ve a feeling it has been discontinued…
Anyhow, I like to try new foundations and occasionally my skin would break out a tad depending on the time of the month, stresses etc. I sought out various foundations online before ordering samples on eBay – I would highly recommend this if you cannot find your shade locally (especially as most shops are closing) and are looking to experiment with shades and reactions to your skin, without the pressure of a store assistant.
Reading reviews also helps on shop websites, as well as independent ones on YouTube, review sites and smaller stockists.
Skin can change: currently, I have combination skin (sometimes sensitive, but this is fortunately rare nowadays).
After much research, I found the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation and ordered 2 5ml sizes for £5.69 (better than paying the full whack for a bottle and finding that it isn’t your shade nor friendly to your skin!). Thank goodness I ordered the 2 as I was firstly able to compare consistency and the shade.
I got 03 Beige Diaphane which was a little more runny and darker, as well as 023 Beige Aurore (my current shade!) which is a bit lighter and slightly thicker, meaning it stays on my face for longer and I can bronze myself up instead of looking like an oompa loompa. It also claims to be non-comedogenic which is good news for pores – after many months of using it, I have not experienced any reactions or build up.
Plus, a little goes a long way, so I’m very happy with my splurge!
(Praise the lord for student discount)
Even if I go to London for the day, it lasts from the moment I put it on at 6am, to taking it off at 10pm. My mascara only just starts to smudge onto my face (but maybe that’s more my mascara) and my skin still looks healthy and alive after a long day.
Hopefully this helps if you were a bit stuck like me and are seeking some advice on foundation!

Thank you so much! I’m glad you found it, thanks for your kind words. We are all busy, so thank you for sparing a few moments 🥰 Glad to welcome you again in future!
Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. Nevertheless think of if you added some great pictures or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this site could certainly be one of the greatest in its niche. Good blog!

Hi Glen, thanks for your feedback! I totally understand what you mean and I have often thought the same thing. For me, my strength and passion lies in writing. It’s also having the time (and confidence) to build up my picture portfolio, but thank you for your words 🥰 All a work in progress!
Have you found any good dupes for the lancome beige aurore shade. I’ve yet to find a single foundation that suits me as well since they’re reformulating
Hi Louise! I didn’t know they were reformulating. I don’t use the Aurore shade so I’m not sure, however I would recommend Beauty Pie foundations. I wrote about it in another blog post about finding the right/almost similar shade here https://bit.ly/LW-BP-makeup
Hope that helps!
Oh I thought you’d said in your blog your current shade was the 023 beige aurore?
I’ll check out the blog thanks.
Oh, I see what you mean! (thought it was a completely different shade, oops! Haven’t used it in over a year either) My Beauty Pie shade is 100 ivory and I’d say the formulation is pretty similar. I’m also using the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin foundation in 4 neutral, although it gives a more glowy finish 🙂
