Hello Klean Review: Is it worth it? Does it work?

Hello Klean shower review

So, you’re interested in trying Hello Klean?

I was a bit sceptical at first too, but I’ll go straight in and say it’s probably the best investment I’ve made in myself for a long time: me and my boyfriend (and I’m sure my dog would agree, if he could speak human).

I’ll cover the key questions I wanted to know when I first started researching this but wasn’t getting clear answers, so hopefully this cuts through that:

  1. Does it work?
  2. Is it worth the money?

Note: In typical blogging style, literally the day after writing this, their website has changed and new products have been launched! My experience of product 1.0 should remain the same, as follows…

Before we continue, let’s preface this with a disclaimer (yawn, I know): the following experience is based on my experience and any recommendations are just my opinion. Whilst they may work for me, they may not be entirely the same for you – or along those lines.

What is Hello Klean?

Like many, I first came across it on Dragons’ Den: of course, why had no one come across it before?! It’s so simple. Handy for renters, or those living in hard-water / limescale areas, Hello Klean is an easy subscription-based attachment that helps filter out hard water.

If you’re thinking about a filtered bath, this is not the product for you. If you own your accommodation/property, then you might want to consider a water softening system. That’s where my knowledge/advice ends…

This is a product currently built for showers (I have Purifying Shower Head 1.0); who knows if there are plans for a bath option.

Does Hello Klean work?

I get it, you want to know if it actually works. A subscription is an investment after all.

I don’t know the sciency part to all this, but I can simply tell you that I can see a positive difference to my hair and skin.

Bought in July, I started testing it the day it came in the post and saw results in a week. 3 months on, my boyfriend and I continue to use it and have changed the filter (super easy to do).

From someone who used to wash their hair every day, I can now go as many as 3-4 days without washing – with some help from dry shampoo in between 🙂

How does Hello Klean work?

  • Subscription-based – you can choose a refill cartridge every 3-5 months
  • Easy, replaceable shower head or shower attachment
  • Nice shower head: like showering under a delicate waterfall
  • Option to buy products too, such as a body wash, shampoo, conditioner and scalp brush (I got one from Primark which works just as fine)

Is Hello Klean worth the money?

The main question is: What price would you put on getting healthier hair and skin?

Perhaps you’re at your wits end and just want a ‘solution’. Whilst I can’t promise an instant fix with this one, you might see results after a week like I did: everyone is different.

Whilst other products have helped clear up my skin (facial acne/rosacea – more on that later), the tops of my shoulders and back have cleared up. Dare I say my skin feels softer too?

For someone with greasy hair, Hello Klean has saved me a whole lot of frustration, time and money! Yep. No more experimenting (aka wasting money) on overpriced products that don’t work or are just full of the same chemicals/ingredients. Instead, I can stick to the same products, know they work, and enjoy ‘filtered’ water.

Do you need to buy Hello Klean’s extra products?

I mean, you can.

For this review, I wanted to keep it as straightforward as possible with just the shower head, by limiting other variables. In the end, I found that the results work for me. Also, I didn’t see the point in spending extra, where I’m looking for something that complements my existing routine instead of changing it entirely.

Lizzie, where are the Hello Klean Before and Afters?!

I know, very frustrating. I would want to see them too, but was just too eager to drive straight in. However, having read this far down, have I convinced you? I’m a convert.

I do, however, have before and afters of the Hello Klean refill cartridges: the greyer type is a wet, used version, next to a fresh white one, ready for use. I’ve also included a dry pic of the used one, where it’s still dirty.

The same goes for the circular shower head refills: if you compare closely, you’ll be able to see all the grub that’s built up – ew.

Best practices

Haircare

Skincare

  • Opt for a one-in, one-out system instead of confusing your skin like I did and risk breaking out.
  • Less is more.
  • Body scrub* and body wash – easy.

What about the waste?!

What waste? Another great thing about Hello Klean is that when you’re done with your current cartridges for a shower (lasting anything between 3-5 months), you remove them; compost and recycle! If you notice some limescale build up, I found spraying a little white vinegar and leaving it for 15 minutes does the job.

Would I recommend Hello Klean?

A big question with a simple answer: yes.

If you live in an area as covered above, also taking into account my disclaimer, then I would recommend this product.

I hope this helps and you get the answer you’re looking for!

  1. Hi,

I just saw your post about Hello Klean and wanted to know if you still use it and whether you think it’s worth the investment. I live in France, where the water is really hard and is damaging my hair. I bought a shower filter from Amazon, but it’s not doing enough to soften the water.

Did you also buy the second product, or are you still using the original version (Product 1.0)? I’d really appreciate it if you could share as many details as possible!

    Thanks 🙂

    1. Hi Omi – Yes, I still use it! 😀 My partner and I have been using it for about 6/7 months now and have seen not only a change in our skin and hair, but water bill too: we reckon about a 25% drop.
I’m thinking of doing another post / YouTube video in future talking through it 🙂 I’m still using Product 1.0 and it works just fine
      Hope that helps!
