At the start of this festive month, I went to London to visit my uni friend – Jacob – and we had an exhausting, yet wonderful time exploring the Christmas-y capital!
I don’t often get the chance to visit London, mainly because I don’t have any reason with work and friends being outside of it.
This day out was long overdue, as I had been stuck in the rut of working during the week and catching up on sleep and exercise at the weekend; not exactly thrilling is it?
Despite the train strikes at the time, Jacob and I managed to meet and head over to Harrods – he informed me it was ‘pretty cool’ this time of year, so of course we had to go!
Inside was buzzing and incredibly busy due to the weekend swarm and Christmas shoppers; we went into the food hall where I managed to buy some Cartwright and Butler fudge, as well as drool over the other goodies on display. We had a venture around the perfumery and upstairs to the homeware, before (hoping) to get to the tube station for the next stage of our quest…
Due to the mad rush of people, we weren’t allowed to get to the tube so we had to walk to the one by the Natural History museum where there was the ice skating rink, but yet another closed tube station! From here we made our way past Kensington Gardens to Lancaster Gate, to then head over to Camden Town.
I wasn’t quite sure what to make of Camden Town; again it was overwhelmingly busy as soon as we got off the tube. By the time we got there it was very dark yet there was a buzz of stalls everywhere selling the same things (tack); keyrings, hoodies, caps and pretty much anything else. It was very quirky, but not quite my style so we walked further yet again to get the tube to Oxford Circus.
Wow – the busyness of the shopping capital was astounding and the light displays down Regent Street were so beautiful – hopefully you can make it out in the pictures!
You may know by now that I am quite the foodie and have a MASSIVE sweet tooth; this called for a compulsory visit to Crumbs and Doilies in Kingly Court, Soho; a brief walk from Oxford Circus. This super cute bakery is tucked away of the buzzing Carnaby Street and as I expected, it was packed full of such goodies I have seen on the owner’s baking channel.
I wanted to take the whole lot home, but instead opted for a cornflake brownie and biscoff rocky road. Holy heck; I will leave my verdict right there for you…
We didn’t get to visit some of the other places I fancied such as the Cereal Killer Café and Primrose Hill due to the unexpected amount of diversions and walking from the tube stations closures. Next was Borough Market (where we saw Dr Zoe!), however by the time we got there it had packed up. Maybe this calls for another trip!
After a long day of walking and exploring London, Jacob and I said our goodbyes and I headed home with my C&D goodies for the fam.
As I said before, it was a very overdue day out and I’m so glad I went. I would recommend, if you have some time before the big festive day to check out the lights and festive buzz of the capital city, otherwise I’m sure there is a chance to see it all between then and new year!
